WHATS THE DIFFERENCE?

HAPPY BLACK HISTORY MONTH

Une pensée de mon ami Mr Sley

Provocative title you say! Indeed for some it is, for some its a common word like saying hello! With black history month at our doorstep, I felt it was necessary to express my opinion on this derogatory term which is so fashionable nowadays.
I'm reminded of a scene in Deep Cover, when a white cop ask black recruits a simple question: "What's the difference between a black man and a nigga?" Many of us would've stumped a mud hole and run it dry on that honky, but many of us can't answer that question correctly! Every black person, male or female have said that word to another black person as a greeting but if a white man would say that all hell would break loose!
So when I attended the Watch the Throne show a few months back inside a packed Bell Centre, composed of a majority of white people would scream & shout the term "Jigga my Nigga" or bounce on the infectious banger "Niggas in Paris", I disconnected from the show and was just watching our society accept words that hurt, degrade and categorize a people for over 400 years!!!
That's the fashion part, in fashion it is ok to push the envelope and make bold statements and act crazy! If its different! Its gonna sell! As black people are the trend setters in the entertainment world, so I do believe we should be accountable for the things and words we say. Finally why not turn the table and ask a white man: what's the difference between a black man and a nigga?
